Cleaning Katadyn BeFree filter?

Howdy!

Has anyone cleaned their BeFree filter more thoroughly than shaking or swishing it? How did yous do information technology?

I but got dorsum to "real" life from my beginning thru-hike and I desire to clean my BeFree water filter. It was only with me for 400- ish miles and I know it's all the same got some life left in it only the menstruum rate slowed down significantly.

at home I clean it with a diluted bleach solution. filter 2 bags worth through the filter and it's as good equally new. I suspect it kills the biofilm.

Some folks are doing a 15 minute vinegar soak then flushing with clean water, seems to help. There was a good thread over at BPL not long agone about cleaning including several different dorsum affluent attempts.

Wasn't the vinegar damaging the filter causing information technology to fail the integrity examination?

I soaked mine for an hour, in one case with cold h2o and once with warm forth with swishing and filtering ~3 liters of water through after. Maybe got 10% of the flow dorsum.

Anyone desire to chime in what else I could be doing? Perhaps filter the vinegar through it? I'll try the bleach method tmw

The four steps are:

1. Milkshake (to loosen up trapped debris)

2. Swish (nether running h2o to rinse out debris)

3. Squeeze (fill the bladder with a bit of h2o and then clasp through the filter to force out trapped air bubbles)

4. Supercede (the price i pays for the much faster bloom rate than a Sawyer is the BeFree's shorter lifespan)

I returned mine to REI (made it just under the year limit) and bought the squeeze. It's the right motility
